The Musical Candle is a mechanical candle that sings and spins - and spits out a tower of fire. Once you light the center, an inch-long sparking flame erupts from the center, and the plastic flower opens to reveal more than 10 candles attached to the petals, which then spin. Because the best thing to do on a child's birthday cake is to have a moving candle spouting a fountain of flame, right?
A gorgeous and original idea! These Happy Birthday Candles are an amazing product that will leave everyone at the birthday party "in awe". These birthday candles also play the "Happy Birthday" song as they spin, or you can cut the cord to stop the song for a non-birthday event. Each candle has a wide plastic "foot" so it is easy to place on the cake. These birthday candles are single-use and FDA-approved for food use.
But there is fire involved, so use with care. The Victorian Director of Consumer Affairs has issued a public warning notice to consumers under section 228 of the Australian Consumer Law and Fair Trading Act 2012 regarding the specific design of the "Happy Birthday" novelty musical candles.
These musical candles are typically presented as a flower that opens once the main wick is lit. When the flower opens, the flame spreads to each petal while the tune "Happy Birthday" is played.
The Director is concerned that these musical candles may pose a serious fire risk because these products are highly flammable and pose a serious health and safety risk to surrounding consumers. These musical candles continue to burn through the wick, causing the plastic to catch fire and melt. The battery compartment may also catch fire and burn. These candles will continue to burn for approximately 5 to 6 minutes and may pose a fire risk if they come into contact with any other materials.
There are similar musical candles for sale that are safe to use and meet Australian product safety standards because they have a barrier under the wick, such as a metal ring, that stops the flame from spreading to the plastic holder. The director general advises consumers to take extra care when using these or other novelty candles.
Before purchasing a novelty candle, ask the supplier if the product is safe and has been tested.
If you do purchase such a candle, do not continue to use it and secure it immediately.
Keep novelty candles away from other decorations or flammable objects to avoid fires, and do not leave burning candles unattended.
Do not light the candle first, use a lighter to light the red stick in the middle. Blow out two-thirds of the candle to avoid burning the plastic.
If all the petals are not down and the candle is lit, blow out the candle to avoid burning the plastic.
Failure to follow instructions may result in fire or personal injury. Please keep out of reach of children and pets.
If you want to stop the music, cut the copper wire with scissors.
